WRITTEN ART COLLECTION

About

The Written Art Collection is dedicated to three cultural spheres: the West, the Middle East and the Far East. The focus is on images and the written word. The collection includes ca. 400 calligraphic, informal and conceptual works by almost 200 artists: paintings, works on paper, and photographs from 1945 to the present day. The program includes international exhibitions, artistic commissions, and acquisitions of important groups of works. The Written Art Collection has no permanent home. From 2013 to 2017, its new acquisitions were shown at the Venice Biennale. 2019 marked the beginning of a long-term cooperation with the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, making it possible for a Written Art Collection to be created there. Contemporary art is making more and more frequent use of a combination of script and image. More information …
